After calling the decision to trade Cristiano Ronaldo away "one of the dumbest decisions in football history," PIERS MORGAN witnessed Manchester United's revamped attack score a knockout Liverpool.
After a columnist and TV personality for the Sun predicted that the Red Devils would lose because manager Erik ten Hag benched Ronaldo, United came back to beat their winless big rivals 2-1.
As thousands of fans gathered outside Old Trafford to demonstrate against club owners the Glazers, Ten Hag benched Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire.
Ron's replacement, Anthony Elanga, set up Jadon Sancho for a brilliant opening goal, and another substitute, Anthony Martial, set up Marcus Rashford for the second.
Mo Salah scored a consolation goal for Jurgen Klopp's team in the 81st minute, and Ronaldo didn't enter the game until afterward.
Before the game, however, Morgan, a huge Arsenal fan, tweeted: "Benching @Cristiano for Elanga against Liverpool
even by current abysmal Manchester United standards, is one of the dumbest decisions in football history."
If (or rather, when) they get hammered tonight, "Ten Hag should be fired for this alone."
Morgan, who has shown strong support for Ronaldo over the summer, received a mixed reaction to his scathing social media post.
Even though United started the season with two losses in a row, they finally found their footing and shined.
Many supporters think Ronaldo was cut because of concerns about his impact on team spirit.
