A healthy, well-balanced diet has everything your body needs to function well and live a long life. Eating healthy reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other diseases.

In a society where unhealthy food is plentiful, this can be difficult. When you know what a balanced diet entails, your health and wellbeing will benefit.

A healthy diet needs protein. Cell growth and maintenance need proteins. The body uses amino acids digested from protein. Protein sources include lean meats, fish, low-fat dairy, eggs, & beans.

In a balanced diet, carbohydrates are essential. Your body converts carbs into glucose for energy. All carbs aren't healthy, though. Simple carbs like candy, cookies, & white rice lack.

Balanced diets include fats. They help absorb fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Some fats are healthy, but others aren't. Daily replacement of water-soluble vitamins is needed.

Minerals are inorganic substances your body needs. Sodium, chloride, and potassium maintain your body's water balance. Calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium help bones and teeth.
