How Manchester United beat Sheriff Tiraspol 2-0

After a 2-0 victory against Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova, Manchester United claimed their first Europa League title of the 2022–23 campaign. The early goal from Jadon Sancho calmed the travelling

team's jitters in Chisinau, and then Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal of the season from the penalty spot. Since United knew the game was lost by halftime, they slacked off and

Sheriff made occasional runs at an upset. United have won four of their previous five games across all competitions, but with no domestic game this weekend, they will be riding a four-game

winning streak into the international break. The summer's biggest story at Old Trafford centred on Ronaldo's attempt to leave United for a club that would provide him with Champions League play,

but his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. Although the 37-year-old lost a large chunk of preseason due to the dispute, and had only one Premier League start to his record before the

international break, Ten Hag has taken a plain stance on the matter. It remains to be seen how the former Ajax coach handles Ronaldo in the coming months, but a first goal of the season and

Marcus Rashford's absence could lead to his return to the starting lineup in the coming month. United supporters were mystified by Gareth Southgate's decision to leave Sancho off of

England's UEFA Nations League roster this month. Ten Hag's confidence has been restored in recent weeks when he scored in Moldova, bringing his total for the 2022/23 season to three goals,

which is more than half of his total tally from previous season. Sancho seems to be Ten Hag's first choice wide player with Rashford, despite the addition of Antony to the team.
