R&B Singer Jesse Powell Dies at 51
A Los Angeles house funeral was held for singer, composer, and R&B legend Jesse Powell, who passed away at the age of 51.
Gary, Indiana native Powell found instant success with the slow-tempo ballad "You," which appeared on his debut album of the same name, released in 1996.
In 1999, he released "You" as a single, and it quickly rose to the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. On Billboard's R&B chart, it peaked at No. 2.
She wrote: "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell.
"He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home. The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn the tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy.
Powell released four albums. 'Bout It was followed by JP in 2001 and Jesse in 2003.
After his fourth album, he kept a low profile, but audiences still loved his music.
Mr Powell, an Indiana-born R&B artist, was best known for his song You, which reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1998.
